Captivating Winter Quarters Living History Event at Fort Ticonderoga Features Life in British North America on the Eve of the Revolutionary War

Join Fort Ticonderoga for a captivating one-day REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ Living History Event: His Majesty’s Garrison of Ticonderoga on Saturday, February 15. Step back in time and discover the peaceful garrison life of British soldiers and their families at Fort Ticonderoga on the eve of the Revolutionary War.

This living history event captures the important role that families played in peacetime garrison life at this British fort. They were more than bystanders, they were integral to the operation of the British Army, following these soldiers from Scotland and Ireland, to garrison the empire in North America.

Immerse Yourself in Wintertime Life:
Highlighted programming will recreate the daily life of the fort’s Guard of British soldiers and their families, who resided within the fort’s barracks. Witness two riveting musket-firing demonstrations, showcasing the peacetime training of these soldiers from the 26th Regiment of Foot, based on actual general orders for the British Army in North America. Observe the precision drill and target practice that were essential for maintaining marksmanship among these soldiers.

Explore the Living Community:
Interact with the livestock that made Ticonderoga home in 1775, including working cattle and fluffy sheep. Savor the aromas of a traditional soldiers’ dinner and meet the skilled craftsmen who were integral to the British Army, keeping soldiers clothed and shod. Witness carpentry tools in action and discover the ongoing efforts to maintain and furnish the barracks, hastily rebuilt after a fire in 1760.

Experience Family Life:
Delve into family life at Fort Ticonderoga, observing schooling and games for children, as well as the tasks of maintaining clothes and bedding. Gain insight into the important role that families played in peacetime garrison life, supporting these soldiers from Scotland and Ireland as they garrisoned the empire in North America.
