REAL TIME REVOLUTION® Living History Event: Supplying Our Army in Canada
Step off the pages of history and onto the frozen ground of 1776! Fort Ticonderoga invites the public and media to its gripping, one-day Winter Quarters living history event, “Supplying our Army in Canada,” on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
This immersive REAL TIME REVOLUTION® experience thrusts visitors into the precarious first winter of the Revolutionary War. While General Henry Knox was famously dragging cannon toward Boston, Fort Ticonderoga was operating as a critical, frozen lifeline—a desperate supply depot for the beleaguered American forces clinging tenuously to the Siege of Quebec.
Highlighted programming throughout the day brings to life Fort Ticonderoga as a critical supply depot for the Northern Continental Army in January 1776.
Frozen Highway: Witness the immense logistical challenge of war in winter. See oxen hauling massive sleds heaped with crucial rations and war materials, transforming the frozen expanse of Lake Champlain into a vital military supply route under the direction of General Philip Schuyler.
The Unsung Work: Meet the resilient New York soldiers who weathered the brutal 1775-76 winter at the fort. Join them in hands-on demonstrations like assembling an ox sled or cutting the firewood that kept the Revolution from freezing over.
Knox’s Counterpart: While the “Noble Train of Artillery” gets the headlines, see the other stream of cannons also being rushed north from Ticonderoga to keep the fighting alive in Canada.
The Human Story: Discover the essential, often-overlooked service of the women who served as laundresses and nurses, mending both uniforms and wounded soldiers in the officers’ quarters, highlighting the constant challenge of “remaking” the Continental Army for 1776.
“This REAL TIME REVOLUTION® event dramatically portrays a critical, frozen chapter of Fort Ticonderoga’s story, set in the winter before the Declaration of Independence was even signed,” said Beth L. Hill, Fort Ticonderoga President and CEO. “Our innovative living history programming highlights the real stories of men and women who faced enormous odds—a powerful reminder of the gritty effort that ultimately secured our independence.”
