A Guided Tour of Fort Ticonderoga’s Liberty Hill

August 12, 2026

NEW! In July 1776, Continental soldiers began digging in at Ticonderoga as they prepared to stem a British counterattack. On the Heights of Carillon, a brigade of Pennsylvanians set up camp on the site of the bloodiest battle of the 18th century. Reinforcing the “old French lines” Americans believed history might repeat itself as they prepared for another British attack. Renaming the position “Liberty Hill,” the Continentals transformed the area, strengthening the fortifications and establishing a dense hut camp. Join Fort Ticonderoga’s curator to walk this hallowed ground today and see what remains of those American positions. The tour is informed by new research and recent archaeological work that is revealing fresh details about this pivotal part of Fort Ticonderoga’s landscape.

**This tour is over rough and irregular terrain and is not recommended for individuals with mobility restrictions.
