Fort Ticonderoga Awards Trustee Emeritus, Sanford Morhouse with the Henry Knox Award at Recent Major Fundraising Event

Fort Ticonderoga awarded Trustee Emeritus, Sanford Morhouse the 2025 Henry Knox Award. The award was presented at the Ticonderoga Ball held in New York City at The Union League Club on March 21, 2025. The award was given in recognition of Morhouse’s long-standing leadership, generous support, and deep commitment to Fort Ticonderoga’s mission of preservation and education.

“The Henry Knox Award acknowledges Sandy’s herculean efforts leading Fort Ticonderoga through a transformative chapter,” said Beth L. Hill, Fort Ticonderoga President and CEO. “Henry Knox is best known for his role in hauling 60 tons of artillery from Ticonderoga to relieve the siege of Boston over the winter of 1775 to 1776. This feat was justly regarded as a model of fortitude and perseverance. Similarly, Sandy has shown that same spirit which motivated Henry Knox on that mission to do the heavy lifting needed to ensure that this institution, like the revolution, would survive and flourish.”

“I am extremely humbled and grateful for this award. But, it is I who should be giving an award to Fort Ticonderoga for affording me the honor and the privilege to serve this iconic place,” said Morhouse.

Sanford W. Morhouse has been a tireless advocate on Fort Ticonderoga’s behalf since first joining the Board of Trustees in 2010. He retired as Chairman of the Board at the end of 2024, after serving in that role since 2013. Under his leadership, Fort Ticonderoga significantly advanced its organizational goals and accomplished monumental projects including the Carillon boat purchase, Pavilion restoration, and Nittolo collections acquisition. His deep commitment to Fort Ticonderoga’s mission of preservation and education, strong community ties, and extensive legal and not-for-profit experience guided Fort Ticonderoga through a transformative chapter.

Morhouse received his B.A. with honors in history from Williams College in 1966 and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1969. He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the New York City Bar Association. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Benedictine Foundation in Ridgely, MD and of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation in New York City where he serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee.  He also is a member of the Board of Directors of Blue Ocean Technologies LLC.

Currently, Morhouse is Of Counsel at Schulte Roth & Zabel in New York. Prior to joining Schulte in 2012, Mr. Morhouse spent his entire legal career at the New York firm of Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood, subsequently Dewey Ballantine LLP and Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLP. Over his 50 plus years of active practice, Mr. Morhouse focused in the areas of corporate and real estate finance, representing primarily institutional investors. In the latter half of his career he focused his practice on the creation of public and private investment vehicles, representing major private pension funds, investment advisors and fund sponsors.
