The Archaeology of Independence

The American Revolution exploded into the Champlain Valley less than a month after it began. It was here that some of the most consequential events of the war occurred, particularly between 1775 and 1777. Thousands of men, women, and children struggled and fought across this landscape. What they left behind connects us to those experiences. These artifacts were all found right here at Ticonderoga, as well as Crown Point and in Lake Champlain. They speak directly to the lives of those who experienced the American Revolution. This exhibit explores objects that reflect over a century of archaeological work here at Ticonderoga.

Funding for this project came from a 2025 Collections Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership.
